The Chief Cook Robot (short version)
A humanoid robot learning to cook an omelet by whipping eggs, cutting ham and grating cheese. Through the use of a probabilistic model, the robot progressively learns to generalize the skill to various situations.

Jellyfish robot: AquaJelly & AirJelly
Festo, has developed a graceful robot inspired by a creature of the sea. In fact, they have developed two versions, both based on the common jellyfish: the AquaJelly and the AirJelly. According to Festo, the AquaJelly is "an artificial autonomous jellyfish with an electric drive and an intelligent, adaptive mechanical system." Apparently the idea is to have several of the robots autonomously working together using a communication system composed of Zigbee short-range radio on the surface and LEDs when underwater.
As for the AirJelly, this remote controlled device can glide through the air using a helium-filled ballonet, a central electric drive and an intelligent, adaptive mechanical system. Apparently, this design offers "fascinating possibilities for "lighter-than-air" aviation." I'm not sure about all of that, but I can at see how the technology behind the AquaJelly could have some practical application on complex underwater projects.

Plen the desk top robot
The AkaZawa's Desktop PLEN Robot is a 23 cm tall, roller skating robot that can be controlled from desktop software or via Bluetooth from a mobile phone.
It has a 32 bit ARM processor running at 33 MHz. Its built-in 3 axis accelerometer and 18 movable joints enable it to dance, walk, roller skate (forwards and backwards) and ride a skateboard. Other moves include picking up a large cube and tossing it, standing up after it falls down and a karate kick.
PLEN can skate on his own power for around 25 minutes. It is equipped with a USB/RS-232C interface along with Bluetooth.

MIT's Nexi MDS Robot
(botjunkie) -- This is Nexi, a small humanoid robot designed by MIT Media Lab’s Personal Robotics Group. Nexi is an MDS robot, which stands for “Mobile/Dexterous/Social.” And indeed, Nexi is all of these things. She moves around on a pair of dynamically self-balancing wheels (like a Segway) which are part of a uBot5 platform, something I saw in action last year at RoboDevelopment.
Her arms, wrists, and hands are fully controllable, allowing her to grip and lift objects of up to 10 pounds, and her face features an array of movable (and quite expressive) features including eyes, eyebrows, eyelids, and mouth. Each eye has a color camera, and an IR system in her forhead lets Nexi make 3D maps of her environment. full story
