Retailers discount Wii Wheel to $9.99

(punchjump) -- Retailers this weekend began discounting Nintendo Co.'s Wii Wheel to $9.99 in conjunction with the release of the racing title Mario Kart Wii.

Retailers including Amazon.com, Best Buy and Toys R Us are all offering the Wii Wheel for $9.99, down from an MSRP of $14.99.

Mario Kart Wii is the first title to support the new peripheral, which allows users to insert the Wii Remote for wireless racing action.

The title will include 16 new courses and 16 classic courses from previous titles, a choice of karts or motorbikes, and the option to place a Mii character in the driver's seat.

Nintendo this month announced that the game title Wii Fit will be sold for $89.99 in May. The product will include the Wii Balance Board to facilitate more than 40 yoga, aerobics, and strength training exercises.

NPD Group Inc. this month reported that the Wii sold 720,000 units in the month of Mar. to rank as the No. 1 video game hardware in the U.S. for the month.
