DIY SSD Drive Test : a RAID5 HDD with 3 Compact Flash

(akihabaranews) -- Many say that SSD are the future of mobile computing and notebooks, but unfortunately they are still pretty expensive, so what about making one yourself? Many had the idea of doing so but too few were able to make it happen, until today. Thanks to Century and GeekStuff4U.com you will be now able to build up your very own SATA SSD thanks to 3 CF, the very same CF that can buy found in many DSLRs.

Even if today we will talk about the SATA version, keep in mind that an IDE version is also available and that both these SSD support either RAID 0 or 5.

Depending of your needs or your budget, you will either have the choice to use 1, 2 or 3 CF at the same time, but remember that 3 CF are needed for a RAID 5 configuration. Our photo gallery and video below will show you the 2 different setting with 3 CF in RAID 0 then RAID 5.
As you will see you do not need, but it is highly recommended and this for performances issues, to use 3 identical CF in either speed or capacity. But keep in mind that the maximum speed of your all setting will be in fact the maximum speed offered by your slowest CF.

Well images worth a 1000 words so just relax and watch our video, and if you are interested, these DIY SDDs are available here at GeekStuff4U.com
